Sorry for those of you in lockdown but I have been to the cinema twice in the last 24 hours. In fact, I think I have had 5 trips to the cinema this year which is such a delight as large screen is still a treat. Last night I saw Nomadland with a large glass of wine and a relatively busy cinema and it was terrific. A lot has been said about the blighting of American industry but I loved this for its focus on the dignity of work - no job was made to seem demeaning.
Today I saw Blackbird which was dreary and predictable but was set in a house as envy worthy as a Nancy Meyer movie.
Apart from that I saw a dozen balloons in the sky today as the annual balloon festival kicks off, walked Charlie, did a number of small errands from my long list, bought a new outdoor table on sale and returned a large portion of the moving boxes.
We watched Nomadland last night on Hulu and the cinematography was so beautiful I wished I was in a theatre. Alas, that will be many months from now. Have you read the book? We read it last year and it was fascinating. I had no idea what is going on in my own country. I live in the northeast where it is too cold to support an alternative population like the van dwellers. Another incredible performance by Frances McDormand.

susannah, I have not read the book but will look out for it. Seeing it in the cinema was a beautiful reminder of the immersive power of a large screen.
