Happy New Year! in 2020 I read 74 books. I set a target of 75 and in the end I didn't quite get over the line and I'll admit it was tough and I had to put in a spurt in the last two weeks but was ever thus with me so I am not going to knock it. Anyway, I could include every book I listened to on audible and that would put me over a hundred so I reckon it was a sterling effort.
Which ones stayed with me?
Maggie O'Farrell's, Hamnet, which I read in the last week and loved
Kiley Read, Such a Fun Age, which was achingly relevant and familiar
Curtis Sittenfeld, Rodham, which was so clever and such a good writer
I discovered writers shockingly late after others but am excited to now have back catalogue of Anne Tyler and Tana French to read. I read some great young Irish writers: Louise O'Neill, Naoise Dolan and Michelle Gallen and some highly recommended writers who I just didn't gel with: Samantha Irby, the Susie Steiner series, Julia Quinn (though that is not going to stop me binge watching Bridgerton), Lisa Taddeo (and now I feel bad I gave it to my niece as a Christmas present last year). I didn't read as much non-fiction as I meant to but most of the stuff I read really made me think on race and gender.
I noticed that I had a huge gap around July and August - probably as I had to move house and I was doing all that prep for promotion (I got it, btw) but still it really helps me relax and unwind and sleep better when I read.
What I do like is being accountable and making sure I trying to spend less time on the phone and more in a book. I won't increase the target for this year but I will try and be less lumpy in the reading and make sure I am getting through enough month by month.
I am very impressed! I will be copying this as a topic for a blog post.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE PROMOTION!
Do you continue on the same projects or do you move to different more exciting things?

Happy New Year! That's a phenomenal achievement. I think I managed 3. Normal people was one, Three Women (Lisa Taddeo) was another and now I'm ploughing through the 700-page Malcolm McLaren biog. Annoyingly I feel like googling things every 5 mins and then I'm down an Instagram hole for half an hour. Grrrr. Such a Fun Age is on my list!
Congrats on the promotion!
