I am not going back to work until Thursday and I am enjoying the in between days of no particular tasks. We are in the peculiar position of being covid free but seeing cases rise in Sydney again so the border with NSW has been closed and my Sydney based family can not visit without 14 days quarantine. It is tough on my daughter as she got a new niece on New Years Day (the same birthday as her older sister which has a neatness though will undoubtedly be annoying for them each as they get older) and she has no chance of seeing her but it is a minor thing in the great scheme.
It has been very rainy but I am delighted with a cool summer, especially after the hell hole that was last summer. The down side is a huge proliferation of weeds in the garden which I will have to tackle.
This morning, Charlie and I walked round the lake and listened to Louis Theroux interview Frankie Boyle. I am actually quite unfamiliar with his comedy as I obviously don't watch UK television, but I was interested in him talking about how PG Wodehouse was one of his formative influences and how middle class English comedians seem surprised that working class people would read and enjoy Wodehouse but how his linguistic tropes of self deprecation underpinned British humour.
I am also re-listening to the Rivers of London series. I did try and work out what I listened to on audible last year and it totalled 37 books so I feel that is a respectable number. My listening is mostly very different to what I would read on a page. For example, I once bought a John Connolly book in a second hand bookshop but could not get on with it at all, however, I am more than happy to listen his prose when read to me. I favour long books too so I know I am getting my money's worth out of each purchase. If I had an ounce of energy I would try and add them to a sidebar list but we all know that is unlikely to happen and probably of little to zero interest.
Anyway, I am enjoying my last two days of leave with low level admin and slothfulness.
