What am I up to? Looking at people's pets during videoconferences, dressing in comfy clothes but making sure to brush my hair, calling lots of people on the phone to re/assure them, making too many trips to the fridge as a reward for getting through another video conference.
I don't know why people find remote working so hard? I find I power through my to do list at the comfort of my own desk. My productivity doubled by bringing home my proper desk chair which, while not sleek and designer, is very comfortable.
The weather is beautiful and I have been walking Charlie in the quiet times and breathing in the smells of the woods. It really helps to not watch or listen to news. I check the abc and guardian web sites. I have done a bit of twitter but am trying to focus on tik Tok dances and cheering pictures of animals.
I read an interesting McKinsey report (I know, nerd) but I really liked their view of 5 horizons:
- resolve - address immediate concerns about health and safety
- resilience - near term challenges with lay offs and economic down turn
- return - detailed plans on how we return to work as the knock on effects become clearer
- reimagination - what's the "next normal"
- reform - what is going to shift in the political and regulatory environment
I'm looking at those for my work environment but I was struck by the concept of the next normal and what I can control about my future.
