My daughter is leaving home at 5.45 am for her shift and I really need to get up with her, as I find myself half waking and then falling into a troubled dream filled and stressful sleep which has me waking at 7.30 feeling awful and groggy. The other night on a flight to Japan I dreamed I had DVT. I am at high risk of it with my way of life so it was probably more of a reminder than a nightmare. I always wear compression socks when travelling and have added wearing Skins to the outfit so I have complete leg compression. I've found it really helps with the leg achingness.
Five things I have found which help me sleep better (and therefore function better the next day) when I am feeling under stress:
- make sure to spend a minimum of 45 minutes outdoors walking the dog
- don't drink alcohol
- don't have technology in the bedroom
- use the smiling mind app
- use the This Works pillow spray and balm on my wrists (I got this as a freebie at the Crowne Plaza and it is hands down the best hotel gift ever)
