After some winter slacking, I am back on the running bandwagon again. This time my goal is to finish the Run With the Wind race in a faster time. (You'll
recall my massive victory from last year which was an achievement but one of my slowest 5km ever). This time I am reminding myself that I need to master the basics and build on a foundation of endurance. It's good aided by light mornings, interesting stuff to listen to and milder weather (mind you, last night was icy and I turned the heating back on for a couple of hours).

I've had to replace the back deck as it was sinking into the garden due to rotting wood and incorrect footings. The carpenter and his apprentice have been very diligent and pleasant to have around. The carpenter has a solid blue heeler also called Charlie who has been a tail wagging fixture in my garden. I took the two Charlies for a walk the other day while some painting was going on that did not need the added complication of tails in paint trays. He was like a little fat wombat plodding along, quite unlike the skipping and prancing of my border collie. I sometimes ponder if two dogs would be easier than one (like the fallacious two children argument) and then I catch myself on.

The year is hurtling to its end. The youngest is doing her university applications this week. The oldest is in massive 21st party planning mode. I am in 2014 work planning mode which seems weird since we only just started the year, it feels. A lot of old people passed this year in my extended family. Still so much to do!
