It's not so far but it still takes 24 hours door to door. I did not sleep at all on the 12 hour flight to Santiago, the downside of daytime flights. I did watch The Intouchables twice and rewound to the dancing scene three times. I now downloading Earth, Wind and Fire for the joy of it. Do watch this movie if you want cheering up.
The Andes were covered in snow. It is quite something to sit drinking your coffee at a dingy airport cafe and to see that majesty just casually out the window. Unsurprisingly, Santiago airport is full of alpaca knitted stuff.
Onwards 4 hours (me, relegated to last row by the toilets but I just snored my way through that flight) and the surprising efficiency of Sao paolo airport.
Sunday morning, the hotel restaurant is full of air crew. This seems the hotel for Air France and American Airlines. This is a French hotel chain with dingy rooms and good food. I ate my body weight in pao de quieja as was culturally required.
It was rainy and lots of streets were closed for the LGBT parade but a colleague and her husband took us on a charming tour of the city including the city markets where I think the stall holders were disappointed that I already knew what the tropical fruits were but the fruit if the Brazil nut was new to me. There was a cake stop too which perked me up as it was filled with dulce de leche.
Then dinner with Azura and the odd glass of wine. I love my Internet friends.
Tomorrow I will be in Santiago but in Spain. I have also seen snowy mountains and eat nothing but cake...continents apart but so similar.
