Of all the work jargon that drives me wild, the use of the word "curate" is the one that makes me want to throttle the utterer. It now seems a catch all phrase for bringing together a bunch of stuff that might be of interest. Honestly, there are people more articulate than I railing against this use but to my mind, if you don't work in a museum or a gallery and you don't have a professional qualification then what you doing is not curating. It's making lists, or bundling stuff up or even collecting.
The past few days have been good in parts. The pup had to stay in the vets overnight on Friday (I was rejoicing that I had signed up for the pet insurance the week prior). It was uncharactertistically quiet and we ate some very ordinary pizza. I may be exercising but my eating habits are crap and I am tired of cooking.
Saturday morning I dragged the oldest to the farmers' market. I have decided I prefer to go alone as she likes a plan. I have a plan which is walking round everything and then deciding the order (and weight) of my purchases. God forgive you should vary that plan, though, as any disruption to the order is met with dismay. Anyway, it was fine. We bought freesias, fennel, potatoes, a meat pie, strawberries, basil and butter.
Her father has gone to the UK for 3 weeks and left us his stately lexus. It is like driving a sofa but immensely comfortable. I drove it to the shop to buy milk and it was delightful. This week an old VW golf that belongs to my stepson has been removed from my driveway where it was immobile, uninsured and unroadworthy. The plan is to get it up to scratch so the younger one can drive it when she gets her licence in December. I declared myself unable to deal with that on top of the 100 other things I have on so fortunately their father agreed to put some effort in. I am just glad to see it gone from my driveway and replaced with a nice car. After last weekend's trouble, the garage has pronounced my audi requiring some minor maintenance. Of course, minor stuff still costs $$$ but it has to be done and then hopefully we are done with it.
We took another trip to Costco to buy dishwasher tablets and soap powder and then some mobile phone replacement madness. The phones are in my name which means I have to go to the store with them any time there is an issue. Tedious. And it was.
Then we went to pick up Charlie who was super full of beans and fully recovered. He is a great favourite of everyone in the vet and we joked there was nothing wrong with him and they had just held on to him as he is so friendly.
In between this all the sheets were changed and washed, electric blankets were removed with the onset of warmer weather, I moved some pictures around and put different coloured cushions on the sofas and switched rugs around.
Charlie and I went for a long walk around 4. I wore my new Merrill Pace shoes and it was amazing how I had to use my feet in a different way. I was glad to put my slippers on and do nothing except watch excellent UK telly last night. I love my BBC.
