There goes my peaceful Sunday. I was sitting at a red light when I heard the screeching of brakes behind me - too late as I was shunted into the car in front. My head flipped back but hit the head restraint and all the glass in my back window shattered.
Fortunately we were right outside a church where people ran out to check no-one was hurt and get the cars off the road. The cops came reasonably quickly, breathalysed us all and took statements. The young girl who drove into the back of me sobbed like her life was over. She was probably only 17 and the first thing she did on getting out of the car was to call her mum. The driver in front of me had only just moved here, was driving her friend's new car and looked desolate. I felt like I had to mother them all.
The insurance company have proved efficient - so far - and my car gets checked over tomorrow but I reckon there are many $$$ of damage - new back wing, new front bumper, etc... Still, it could have been worse, no one seems injured and thank goodness the children weren't in the car.
I had completed the tedious task of buying a new dishwasher but had not completed the equally tedious grocery shopping but I'm glad of the excuse. Now I have to phone my children's father and ask if I can borrow his car for the week. I hate to be beholden but sometimes you just have to do it.
Impressive prang!
