My assignment is coming to an end and I'll be returning to Canberra soon. The process of shipping the pets home is complicated and expensive. They have to show they are rabies free for 6 months which if I had realised I could have been keeping a handle on. Whatever, needs must. I was traumatised by this realisation until the pet transport company made the suggestion that one of their staff could foster them. She has a 17 year old daughter who loves animals but is going to college in a year or two so they did not want to commit to a long term pet. They are going to live at the beach in Northern California which seems a pretty sweet deal to me. Does Charlie like the beach? she asked me.
I had to get up at 3am to take them out to the pet transport guy to get on a flight from JFK. He was patient at me smothering them with my love and vows not to forget them. The house is very quiet without pets.
Last night I walked down to Times Square and ate an ice cream from Ice and Vice (strawberry cheesecake in an almond cone) and went to see Hotel Artemis which I loved. How wonderful to see Jodie Foster in role which shows what a great actor she is. I see it had mediocre reviews but I loved all of it including the cinematography, the music and the ensemble cast but Jodie Foster's tip toe gait and her phobias is amazing. So great to see an older woman, with wrinkles and grey hair as the central cast.
Also, I've had Colson Whitehead's Underground Railroad on my bookcase for a few months but I only read it last week. Phenomenal.
